Starting from next Monday the gang will be interning at the Orthopedics department. Their lecturer assigns material to each of them; written is information on the patients they are going to assist. Tomoki is excited to meet all the handsome male patients. Marina joins in on the excitement; wondering whether she will fall in love with a patient.
Kotoko drifts off into fantasy world - having a young child patient who dotes on her - unwilling to be tended to by anyone else. Then a granny patient who thinks of her as her grandchild. Thirdly, a young male adult who has given up on the slim chance he will walk again, Kotoko gives him a dramatic slap on the cheek, calling him a coward - giving him encouragement to work together in the rehabilitation process, she holds his hand - he automatically agrees.
The gang are introduced to their
Keita meets his assigned patient, a sweet girl in a wheelchair named Akiko-chan, she is in awe at his smile. Tomoki meets Shiun-kun, the disappointment on Tomoki's face is all too clear. His patient is a young chubby male young adult snacking on ALOT of junk food. Safe to say his fantasies are crushed.
Marina meets Aoki-san a nerdy teen with his nerdy friends (remember those 3 guys that worked with Naoki to make that game, these are the same three). Motoko meets a bike accident patient whose face and arms are bandaged like a mummy, she leaps at the chance to see his wounds and to re-bandage him.
Kotoko meets Yoshida Toyo, a fiesty granny, who claims to never remember any intern's names.
The gang minus Kotoko are already eating lunch, Tomoki and Marina are complaining about their patients whilst Keita and Motoko are happy with theirs'. Kotoko comes to the table, zombie like, in the morning alone her patient had made 8 nurse calls. The gang react with astonishment. Kotoko had to massage her shoulders, hips, arms, legs - poured tea, refilled tea and refilled it again and again.
The nurses' praise Kotoko for her hard work as they sit in the dining area, mentioning that Yoshida has started up her bullying tactics against interns. Having caused the previous intern to quit. Kotoko's mouth gapes open until she spots Naoki. As Kotoko attempts to call for Naoki, the other nurses jump up and fangirl. The nurses worn the gang to not approach Naoki - they have seniority rights to guys - Kotoko is shaken. At this time, Naoki asks Kotoko how practice went...
Naoki gives Kotoko encouragement before lightly touching her shoulder wishing her luck. The nurses interrogate Kotoko - why is it an intern gets to speak to Naoki when they haven't - they ask for her relationship with him. Tomoki throws Kotoko under the bus by revealing that she is Naoki's wife.
Kotoko is buzzed once again by Yoshida, who is counting the seconds it takes for Kotoko to arrive. Yoshida complains because of the 39 second wait... only to ask for her tv to be turned on. Kotoko stands up for herself, asking why Yoshida didn't use the tv remote which was right in front of her.
Yoshida complains of arm pains, Kotoko zaps back that Yoshida has a fully functional right arm. Yoshida starts calling Kotoko the devil, she grabs onto her chest and calls for help. Hosoi comes in, Yoshida rats on Kotoko - having yelled at an elderly patient, calling her horrible. Hosoi takes Kotoko away, whilst Yoshida gives a sly smile as her pain vanishes.
Kotoko is once again serving the granny, apparently Kotoko isn't allowed to use the elevator? Why? I don't know... she is trekking 7 floors using the stairs. She had been instructed to buy chocolate crunch by Yoshida - which Kotoko couldn't find so she bought chocolate instead. Unsatisfied, Yoshida orders her to repurchase the right one.
Just as Kotoko comes back into the nurse area for a seat, Yoshida calls for the 22nd time. This time asking Kotoko to hold her mirror as she puts lipstick on
Yoshida is asked by the doctor on her condition, she doesn't forget to putdown Kotoko before asking for Naoki to check on her. Rules are broken this one time as Yoshida refuses to be examined by the doctor (interns are not allowed). Naoki checks her pulse, the sly granny asks whether her heart beat is faster than usual... rolls eyes. She says it's because of Naoki, she then clings onto Naoki's arm.
The doctor kindly/nonchalantly mentions that Yoshida has no chance because "Irie-kun is married with the intern Irie-san over here". "There's no chance that Dr Irie would be married to this stupid intern, right?" "It's the truth though".
Yoshida has a change of heart, apologising to Kotoko (remembers her name) for acting self-centeredly up until now. "If it's a girl chosen by Dr Irie, there must be no mistake". Yoshida holds onto Kotoko's hands and asks to be taken care of by Kotoko/ get along well essentially.
Yoshida offers to eat snacks with Kotoko to show her sincerity, she even gets up to pour some tea for the two. Hosoi rushes in to ask why Kotoko is stealing snacks from the elderly and ordering them to get tea. "Yoshida came crying to me, she said Irie-san is a horrible wench"... as Kotoko continues to be chewed...
Yoshida is smiling from the door and pulls a face, sticking her tongue out.
The gang watch Keita interact with his patient, Tomoki and Marina are sending glares with Motoko smiling as usual. Pan to Kotoko who is slumped over falling asleep.
Kotoko drags her self back to the ward less than enthused. Not only is Yoshida giving her a hard time, Kotoko seems to be doing everything wrong - tending to patients, writing her nursing care plan, making a bed... Kotoko notes that her foes aren't limited to Yoshida only (the nurses too).
Kotoko bumps into Akiko in the hall; offering to push her wheelchair. Akiko starts to ask a question about Keita but stops herself, Kotoko encourages her to ask and gets friendly by touching her arm. Akiko retracts her arm and tells Kotoko to stop, she leaves by herself.
It is night time, Yoshida is seen holding a photo. It is of a couple and their baby.
The next day, Yoshida shows Kotoko the framed photo she had of Naoki plus the others... All is good until Yoshida starts feeling chest pains... Kotoko goes screaming for help in the corridor, dragging the nearest doctor... to come back to a perfectly fine Yoshida. The commotion even caused Hosoi to rush in.
Yoshida blames Kotoko for not knowing the difference between a heart attack and love sickness. Which she apparently got when looking at Naoki's photos just then. Once again Kotoko is taken away by Hosoi. Yoshida is seen clutching her chest when they leave.
Kotoko is cooling off on the rooftop when Naoki comes to talk about the commotion she caused. Kotoko tells him of her hardship, Naoki suggests quiting becoming a nurse as an alternative. As he has noticed the job is pushing her to the limit/how tough it is.
Back in the nurses office, Hosoi removes Yoshida as a patient under Kotoko's care from tomorrow onwards... Kotoko feels uneasy thinking whether this is really the right way to end things.
Kotoko visits Yoshida who is under her blanket facing the opposite direction to say her goodbyes. Kotoko apologises for being annoying, before leaving she asks Yoshida to at least look at her face when she is saying goodbye. Kotoko makes a grab for the blanket, suggesting Yoshida is crying since she is hiding. Kotoko checks Yoshida's head with her forehead, Yoshida has a fever.
Kotoko calls Yoshida foolish for only calling for the doctor when she is well and hiding from them when she is sick. Yoshida rolls onto her side in pain as Kotoko goes to find a doctor.
Yoshida is diagnosed as almost having Pneumonia, and is given 5L of oxygen. At the office one of the nurses informs Yoshida's guardian (her child) of her condition but is hung up on as it was deemed not important, told to call only when it is critical. Kotoko now realises that no one has come to visit Yoshida the whole time she has interned. Kotoko recalls that this morning's chest pain might have been real.
The nurse mentions that Yoshida may bother Kotoko but also asks her whether she doesn't think it might be because she is ultimately lonely. Additionally, the nurse mentions that the senior nurses that take care of Yoshida do it with a serious face but when interns come in they show a variety of reactions/emotions, which is fun for Yoshida to mess with.
Kotoko runs after the nurse to ask whether she can stay the night with Yoshida but is declined as it is against the rules. Hosoi overhears and asks the nurse of Yoshida's family situation - they aren't coming. Hosoi nonchalantly mentions it would be nice if an acquaintance would step up to fill the spot... Kotoko is not quick on registering the offer but eventually does. Hosoi talks to the air.. saying "What you do is up to you as long as it doesn't interfere with you practicum tomorrow"...
Kotoko watches over Yoshida. Naoki comes to check on the two - Yoshida's breathing is still heavy and her fever has gone down. Naoki tells Kotoko to not be hard on herself, she did what she could and now it is up to Yoshida to make the recovery. Naoki leaves.
Yoshida starts to squirm and lift her arm from underneath the blanket. Causing Kotoko to remember Yoshida having Neuralgia, so she massages Yoshida's arm. Kotoko starts talking to Yoshida, asking whether Naoki is similar to her husband, noting how there aren't many good men like Naoki. Hosoi watches on from the door (seeing Kotoko in a new light?? :D).
The next morning, Yoshida complains of heaviness as Kotoko is resting her head on top of Yoshida's knees. Yoshida complains that it is the first time a nurse has slept on a patient. Kotoko checks for the fever, it's gone! She gives Yoshida a big hug.
Once again Kotoko is strolling with Akiko who is apologising for acting weirdly towards Kotoko the last time they met. Akiko mentions that Marina told her that Keita likes Kotoko... Kotoko asks whether Akiko like Keita. Kotoko gives her full support, whilst Akiko is confused having thought Kotoko felt the same way towards Keita. Kotoko proudly says she is Dr Irie's wife.
It is time to bid farewell to the patients the gang took care of. Tomoki cries as he is going to miss Shiun-kun. Marina is the opposite, pulling a face of digust as the three nerd cry in unison, the guy with the broken leg thanks her... by the wrong name. Marina asks for the three to forget her.
Tomoko's patient once again injured his face although she had nursed him back to health, which he apologises for... facing the wrong direction as he still can't see through the bandages. She asks for him to show his wound to her one last time - the crazy eyes reappear. Akiko is crying as Keita thanks her.
Kotoko is feeling sad that she has to part with Yoshida but reminds herself to keep smiling, she approaches the room to see...
Yoshida happily taking pictures with Naoki. Kotoko starts talking franticly, asking why the two are taking pictures together. Kotoko starts to beg the nurse (the one who was taking the picture) to take a picture for her...
Yoshida smiles at Kotoko's persistence and mentions to Naoki that he chose a pretty good girl. Naoki agrees. Yoshida says Kotoko is clumsy but has guts.
The nurse finally agrees, Kotoko holds onto Naoki's arm as Yoshida jumps in last minute.
